How to find a job after redundancy

Days 1–3: get the facts in writing

• Ask for the terms in writing before agreeing to anything
• Check your notice, outstanding holiday and any redundancy entitlement
• Don't sign a settlement agreement without understanding it
• Ask whether the employer will provide a reference and outplacement support

Week 1: work out your floor

Calculate the minimum you must cover each month and how many months your money covers. This single number changes every later decision — whether you can wait for the right role, retrain, or need income now.

Week 2: rebuild before you apply

Rewrite your CV once, around outcomes rather than duties, aimed at a named target role. Applying with an old CV is the most expensive shortcut in a job search.

Weeks 3–4: target, then measure

• Pick two or three target roles and stick to them for a month
• Contact people who have seen your work — most roles are filled through them
• Log every application with date, target role and outcome
• Review at day 30 and change one thing, not everything
